Special Guest Misty Copeland Dances with Children at MSKCC
Monday, January 22, was like no other Monday. The Andréa Rizzo Foundation wanted to do something special this year at Memorial Sloan Kettering Cancer Center to celebrate their Dréa’s Dream dance/movement therapy program milestone of 15 years. And special it was indeed. Misty Copeland, principal dancer for American Ballet Theater, joined the foundation in celebrating 15 years, along with MSKCC staff, Nina Pickett, Pediatrics Hospital Administrator, Gary Deng, Clinical Director for Integrative Medicine Services, Eva Pendleton, Program Manager for Integrative Medicine Services and dance/movement therapists, Suzi Tortora and Jennifer Whitley. A dance/movement therapy group session was provided and Ms. Copeland joined in to dance and visit with the children. Susan Rizzo Vincent, foundation President, also joined in the fun. She was accompanied by her sister, Jill Mollitor, and Laura Harlan, foundation volunteer, who watched and enjoyed the day with many other hospital patients and staff. A special friend and supporter of the foundation, actress Jane Seymour, made a special effort to join in the fun and was in awe of Misty Copeland’s kindness and generous spirit as well. It was truly a memorable day for everyone.
